Pop Up Chargers
Dundee now have pop-up EV chargers located around the city. These can be found at the waterfront next to the V+A as well as on South Victoria Dock Road. This was through a partnership with Urban Electric where our team produced trial pop up chargers to assess usability in the city. These pop-up chargers extend and retract and remain flush with the ground when not in use which allows for efficient charging and helps solve the issue of added clutter around the streets. The charger, known as UEone enables users to connect via the app.
Currently, 124 prototype charging bays have been distributed in Dundee, Plymouth, and Staffordshire for a trial period of 18 months which officially ended in April 2022 but remain available on a free-to-use basis. The unique design of these charge points means hardware can easily be replaced within 30 minutes.
In 2021 we successfully deployed 22 number of pop up chargers in the following locations:
After a successful 18-month trial period, certain parts in the prototypes have naturally ran their course, thus, a decision has been made to remove some of the working chargers for relocation at the hub at the Waterfront. We are hopeful that in the next 6-8 months we will be able to install the UEone across the city.
The best way to keep up to date is to check the UE app https://www.urbanelectric.london/in-the-news.
**Please be aware that the current pop up chargers are being disconnected for a period of time due to newer editions being commissioned.
